Painting a ceiling and walls often become stained over time and need to be re-painted. A fresh coat of paint has the ability to transform your house interior at relatively low cost. Sometimes, applying a few methods can make the whole process easy and the whole house interior painting job will complete to a very high standard.

Move out or cover up your furniture before painting your walls & ceiling

Painting ceilings and walls can be difficult so make sure you are as unrestricted as possible during the job. Move your furniture out, especially the ones that might get in the way. The items that are too big to get through the door can be positioned to the center of the room. Painting ceilings and walls can sometimes make a mess so make sure to use thick drop sheets all over your furniture.

Large paint splashes should be cleaned up immediately to avoid them leaking through to the floor. Typically, there are some leakages that even sheets won’t be able to protect against.

Taping up the walls & ceiling

Taping is important for ceiling painting; especially if other areas of the room have already been decorated (many people choose to paint their ceiling last). If you are painting the ceiling only, make sure to apply tape where the walls meet the ceiling to protect existing paint jobs from splash.

It should be noted that splash can remain noticeable even on same colour walls, so if you’re going for the best possible finish, use taping. Apply tape to moldings, light-switches and power-points as well.

Edging between walls and ceiling

If you have taped up the edges and have a safe, steady ladder to use, you’re ready to start. To make the whole ceiling painting easier, it’s always a good idea to cut in. paint a kind of border on the edge of the ceiling and walls all the way around the room.

Try to aim for a 4 inch strip – this should give you enough space to apply the roller with assurance. If the walls are going to be a different colour or shade, then the strip need only be about an inch. Always begin strokes within the wet edge of your previous stroke to avoid marks.

Ready to Roll

Rolling in analogous with the natural light source is the best exercise as it helps to cover the roller lines. Though, this isn’t an issue with textured ceilings and walls. Once you’ve decided on which way you prefer to roll, begin the job from the left forward corner of the room.

Split it into two sessions: one for rolling the paint on, the other for flattening it out. It’s good to make your roller strokes distance the length of the ceiling although this is challenging in large rooms. So for big rooms, consider splitting the walls and ceiling into sectors.
